Statement
After building and selling several successful businesses I wanted to bring my knowledge and love for the sciences and engineering to new students. I am excited about the opportunity to do so here at Granite Bay Montessori School.
I strongly believe that children have the ability to understand and incorporate into their lives technical concepts more complex than most adults expect. To that end I am crafting a hands-on science and engineering program that dovetails with the traditional Montessori teaching methods. I teach by having the students construct the things we are learning about including lab and demonstration equipment. With technology changing so rapidly there is a tendency to view it as unapproachable, almost magical, and outside the grasp of most people. My hope is that, by letting them build and manipulate complex technology, we bring science and technology back to a comfortable and understandable level.
Interests
Flying and teaching people to fly (I am an FAA-certified flight instructor), sailing, building large computer networks, music (vocal jazz), ballroom dancing, amateur radio, and racing cars.
Personal Information
I have raised five children, the youngest of whom is just entering the United States Naval Academy. The rest are out of school and leading happy, interesting, and productive adult lives. I wish I had found Granite Bay Montessori School when they were young enough to attend. I have recently remarried and am looking forward to this new phase in my life.
